Where it is
The airport sits about 15 km south of town, on the Agadir road, past the bridge over the Ksob river. Allow around twenty minutes to the medina gates, a little more for the seafront or the countryside.
It is a single terminal with a few check-in desks, a café and a shop. Nothing is open outside flight hours. Flying out, get there two hours ahead: security is quick, but everything funnels through one point, and a single queue slows the lot down.
Flights: what really lands here
Essaouira-Mogador is not served by the Moroccan carriers: there are no domestic flights at all, from Casablanca or from Marrakech. The airport lives entirely off European low-cost airlines.
As of September 2026 twelve direct routes were scheduled, flown by easyJet, Ryanair, Transavia France and Vueling:
- France: Paris Orly, Paris Beauvais, Bordeaux, Lyon, Marseille, Nantes
- Spain: Barcelona, Madrid, Seville
- Rest of Europe: London Stansted, Brussels Charleroi, Düsseldorf Weeze
Watch the frequency: each route runs at most one flight a day, often two or three a week, and the choice thins out in winter. Check the airline's own site, or search a comparison site for airport code ESU directly, rather than trusting an article or a forum: half of what circulates online describes routes that no longer exist.
Getting into town
By taxi. Taxis wait outside the terminal for every arrival and the drive takes about twenty minutes. Agree the fare before you get in: on airport runs the meter isn't used, and the night rate is higher. Ask your accommodation what the run costs before you arrive: it is the best protection against a price invented on the spot.
By pre-booked transfer. If you land late, with children or a lot of luggage, a driver waiting outside with a price already fixed saves you a negotiation at exactly the hour you don't want one.
By bus. There is no city bus route serving the airport. Don't build your arrival around one.
By hire car. There are only a couple of desks and they open for flight times. Book before you travel — and remember that in Essaouira itself a car is no use at all, because the medina is pedestrian.

Three airports can bring you here. The right one mostly comes down to the fare and your arrival time.

Going home
Two details that matter on departure day:
- Order your taxi the night before through your riad, especially for a morning flight. You will not find one at the medina gate at 5 a.m.
- Wind does not cancel flights, whatever you may have read. Summer morning sea fog can delay a landing, though, so leave yourself room if you have a connection in Casablanca.
