Children can start surfing at five. Lessons happen in waist-deep whitewater close to the shore, on light soft-top boards that cannot hurt anyone, and the instructor stays in the water right next to them the whole time. They learn balance, timing and respect for the ocean, with three children per instructor at most.
Kitesurfing starts at 12, and at around 40 kg, so a child can control the kite safely. Teenagers take the same course as adults, with extra attention to safety and the basics, and Mohamed Achhibat sizes the kite to their build.
Safety comes first: a life jacket and a wetsuit for every child, a marked and supervised zone, gear sized to their height and weight, and a warm-up and safety briefing before each session. Parents are welcome to watch from the beach, and on a family day parents and children take lessons at the same time.
