The Ouassane dunes are a ridge of golden sand between the countryside and the ocean, a few minutes from Sidi Kaouki and about 25 minutes by road from Essaouira. The slopes are steep enough to pick up speed, the fine sand forgives every fall, and there is hardly anyone around. Mornings bring soft light and cool sand; at sunset the dunes turn gold.
A session starts with a briefing and a few tips from your guide, then as many runs as you like, at your own pace, sitting down or standing up as on a snowboard; the guide waxes the board between runs so it really slides. You finish with photos, a few last runs, and mint tea and biscuits facing the dunes.
No experience is needed, and children of any age are welcome with their parents. It is also the perfect plan for a day with no wind and no waves, and it pairs well with a morning surf session at Sidi Kaouki. You can meet at the dunes or add return transport from Essaouira.
